The Heartbeat Collective (THC) is a street drumming collective rooted in Ohlone lands also known as Oakland, CA. We are proud to rep The Bay as we show up side-by-side with our communities in the work of collective liberation. We are a reflection of our greater community, harmonizing and flowing across lineages, diasporas, cultures, and generations. Together we create a soundtrack to the movement.

While THC was “officially” founded in 2024, we come from the decade-long legacy of culture work within BoomShake Music.

With humility, we carry on the teachings of our elder and ancestor, Teacher Aunty Monica Hastings-Smith. We recognize that we are among the countless people with whom Teacher Monica shared her magic. Like the dandelions she sang about, The Heartbeat Collective is rooted and still growing.
