The Heartbeat Collective (THC) is a street drumming collective rooted in Ohlone lands also known as Oakland, CA. We are proud to rep The Bay as we show up side-by-side with our communities in the work of collective liberation. We are a reflection of our greater community, harmonizing and flowing across lineages, diasporas, cultures, and generations. Together we create a soundtrack to the movement.

While THC was “officially” founded in 2024, we come from the decade-long legacy of culture work within BoomShake Music.

With humility, we carry on the teachings of our elder and ancestor, Teacher Aunty Monica Hastings-Smith. We recognize that we are among the countless people with whom Teacher Monica shared her magic. Like the trees and the dandelions she sang about, The Heartbeat Collective has strong roots and is still growing.
