A soundtrack to the movement for our collective liberation
Grounded in ancestral and contemporary musical traditions, we weave our cultural lineages to create spaces where we can express our whole selves and explore our roots across diasporas. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, we accompany and energize grassroots movements and movement-builders, raising our beats, rhythms, and voices for collective liberation.
The Heartbeat Collective (THC) is led by BIPOC women, non-binary, and trans folks, and we are dedicated to centering our leadership and lived experiences. We come together to offer a soundtrack to the movement for our collective liberation, knowing that culture work creates the joy, healing, and connection we need to get free. While our communities face ongoing displacement and disinvestment in the Bay, our adult drumming classes are where we can take up space and show up for ourselves. THC is a space of belonging, where we exercise our leadership as culture bearers and agents of social change through rhythms, song, chants, and body movement. The energy we create together is poured back into community workshops, performances, mobilizations, and direct actions. Everywhere we go, we bring a heartbeat that reminds our people of our power and creativity.
